Quick answer: Realism tattoos (portraits, pets, animals and objects) are done by Jaimin Parmar at The Kala Culture Tattoos on Vasna-Bhayli Main Road, Vadodara. He has 8+ years of tattooing and 2000+ customers. Bring a clear, high-quality reference photo, and we quote the price once we have seen it, because realism needs more size and time than a simple design.
What is a realism tattoo?
Realism is the style where a tattoo should look like a photograph of its subject rather than a drawing of it. That takes smooth tonal shading, correct proportions and enough contrast to survive years of healing. It is slow, detail-heavy work, and it is the style where the reference photo and the room on your skin matter most.
People usually come to us for a portrait of a parent, a child or a deity, a pet, a wild animal, or an object that carries a memory. Realism is one of the three styles Jaimin specialises in, along with colour work and fine line.
- Works well for Faces, pets, animals and objects with clear light and shadow, such as a watch, a flower or a musical instrument.
- Needs Room and a good reference. A face smaller than your palm struggles to read as a face, and a blurry photo gives a blurry tattoo.
- Placement Flat, steady areas suit it best: forearm, upper arm, calf, thigh and back.

How does a realism tattoo session work?
1. Send the reference
Send the sharpest, best-lit photo you have, with the face or subject clearly visible. Tell us the body part and the size you have in mind. If the photo is too weak, we will say so and ask for another.
2. Size check
We tell you honestly if the size is too small for the detail you want. Going a little larger usually gives a better result than squeezing a portrait into a small space.
3. The session
Realism takes longer than line work of the same size. Larger portraits may be split across more than one sitting, and we plan that with you before starting.
4. Healing
Soft shading often looks patchy or flat while it peels in the first two weeks. Judge the result once it has fully healed, and keep it out of the sun. If a spot needs a touch-up, we look at it then.
Price depends on size, detail and placement. See the tattoo price guide for rough ranges, then send a photo on WhatsApp for a clear quote. For healing and aftercare, read our aftercare guide for Vadodara's heat and monsoon.
Realism Tattoo Questions
How long does a realism tattoo take?
It depends on the size and the amount of detail. A palm-sized portrait can take several hours, and bigger pieces are split across sittings. We give you an estimate once we have seen the reference photo and the spot on your body.
Can you do a portrait from a blurry or old photo?
We can often work with an old photo, but the tattoo can only be as clear as the reference. If the face is too soft to read, we ask for a better picture or other photos of the same person.
Does realism cost more than other styles?
Usually yes, because it takes more time than line work of the same size. The exact number is quoted after we see your reference. Our rough price guide shows the starting ranges by size.
Black and grey or colour realism?
Both are possible. Black and grey is the more common choice for portraits. Colour realism is lovely on flowers and animals, but it needs more sun care afterwards.
Will a realism tattoo fade?
Soft shading shows age sooner than bold lines, so sun protection matters. Use sunscreen once it has healed, and let us know if you ever want a touch-up.
